The prolific California-based songwriter has written hits for K-pop giants, BTS, including the 33 million-streaming Spotify crossover, ‘My Time’.
How familiar are you with Korean Pop Music? Widely referred to as K-Pop, it is now the fastest growing genre in modern history. That alone is an astonishing feat but what makes it even more special are the sheer amount of massive, pandemonium inducing fans. Chances are, if someone likes K-Pop, then they love K-Pop.
There’s a number bands that are leading the pack, among them being EXO, MONSTA-X, and more prominently, BTS. These bands have completely broken out to establish fans all over the world.
This is largely from their collaborations with American songwriters and producers. One that has been there since day one is Long Beach native, Jayrah Gibson. His early contributions of soulful R&B to all of the above mention Korean bands has landed him a plethora of multi-platinum records.
Most recently, “My Time” by BTS is the band’s 6th most popular song with 33 million streams on Spotify and it’s track to be their biggest crossover hit of all time. Jayrah wrote and recorded My Time at his home in Porter Ranch, CA, a place where he frequently pens several songs per day. Simultaneously, he’s been writing his own self-titled artist project.
His sound has been described of as, “Imagine a dope lyricist who’s singing performance has shared the stage with American Idol Finalists.” That’s because it’s actually true. In 2012, Gibson’s charismatic audition landed him all the way in the finals
