In an interview with The Monitor newspaper, the managing director of Silk and Events, Elvis Sekyanzi said “Kool & The Gang are living legends. Formed as a jazz ensemble in the mid-’60s, Kool & the Gang became one of the most inspired and influential funk units during the ’70s, and one of the most popular R&B groups of the ’80s after their breakout hit “Celebration” in 1979.

Just as funky as James Brown or Parliament, Kool & the Gang relied on their jazz backgrounds and long friendship to form a tightly knit group with the interplay and improvisation of a jazz outfit, plus the energy and spark of a band with equal ties to soul, R&B, and funk.

Kool & The Gang has sold over 70 million albums worldwide. The group had people dancing since 1969 and during the last five decades, they have won two Grammy Awards, seven American Music Awards, 25 Top Ten R&B hits, nine Top Ten Pop hits and 31 gold and platinum albums.

Formed by Robert “Kool” Bell, his brother Ronald Bell and a bunch of their New Jersey teenage friends in the mid-60s who were then called the Jazziacs.

Members include Claydes Smith, Clifford Adams, Curtis Williams, Dennis D.T. Thomas, Don Boyce, Earl Toon, Jr., George Brown, Michael Ray, Otha Nash, Robert ‘Kool’ Bell, Ronald Bell and Skip Martin.

According to Talent Africa’s Aly Allibhai, the concert will be a sure trip down memory lane.”Ugandan should get ready for one of the biggest concerts of all time. At Talent Africa we are dedicated to bringing the best in worldwide entertainment right here to the Pearl of Africa. Kool & The Gang is coming with their full band and their stage performance is out of this world. People should get ready to celebrate,” he explained.
