Over 150 artists will stage an all night vigil in tribute to the king of rumba music, papa wemba, who died last Sunday while performing in Abidjan.
The remains of the African music legend is expected to arrive Kinshasa Wednesday.
Maria Rosa, wife of the deceased music star, arrived in Abidjan to Monday to oversea the repatriation of her husband’s corpse.
The funeral arrangement is being managed by a popular Ivorian group called Magic System which was the organisers of the FEMUC festival where Papa Wemba met his tragic end while performing life on stage.
‘‘More than 150 artists, both from within and beyond the African continent have indicated they will take turns on stage to pay tributes to Papa Wemba’’, a statement signed by the leader of Magic System, Salif T Traoré, said.
The wake keeping will take place on Thursday April 28th at the national stadium in Kinshasa , the capital city of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Three Ivorian government ministers, notably, the ministers of Internal Affairs, Culture and Youth and Sports, alongside his widow will accompany Papa Wemba’s remains from Abidjan to Kinshasa, the press released added.
Meanwhile, the wife of Papa Wemba,Maria Rosa, fondly called Amazon, who arrived Abidjan from the Congo was overwhelmed by emotions the moment she approached the lifeless body of her husband.
She had to be helped to her feet by her entourage.
Papa Wemba had some recent minor heath problems according to sources closed to the singer. This has also been collaborated by the Magic System Group in a statement.
