After his successful participation as a finalist and a gold record winner in The Voice 5 in Quebec, Canada, here is the solo album of Guy Mapoko titled “Pardon”.
The new releases contains 14 tracks sung in his mother tongue as well as in French and English distributed by The Orchard (Sony Music Entertainment).
Guy Mapoko’s genre of music, named Rockafrika (spicy rock), is rock and blues made and marinated with Africa multi percussion such as water calabash, djembe, congas, cajun, talking drum etc.
Born in Benin, English teacher by day and musician at night, the montrealer, Guy Mapoko is a good musician/arranger, author-composer and singer of rock, pop-rock, blues, reggae, jazz and soul,
Also, had he the privilege to sing alongside with artists such as Birdy, Lionel Louèkè, (guitarist of Herbie Hencock), Nel Oliver, Isabelle Boulay, Eric Lapointe, just to quote only those…
In 2007 he released a first album entitled “Sceaux 1” among the popular “les frères Koud’Akoll” that could be considered as the “Jackson five” of Benin (West Africa).
Arrived in Quebec in 2012, in order to reach another audience and expand his career, Guy Mapoko participated in the VOICE 2017 of Quebec, Canada where, as a finalist, he was awarded with a gold record for the sale of 40.000 units of albums.
In short, his experiences from his home country to the North America and more, indicates a diversity of acquired musical knowledge that he would, now, like to share with his audience through a new resonance called Rockafrika.
